1. Who We Are

StudySpell is operated by LevelNex AI. This policy explains what personal information we collect depending on how you use the service, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

2. What We Collect

What we collect depends on how you use StudySpell:

Guest users (no account)

We do not create an account for you, and the spelling words and answers in a guest session are not saved to our servers. Two things are still collected:

• Page analytics. Like most websites, we record which pages are visited and basic technical details such as browser type. This runs on every page, including guest pages. See Section 7.
• An email address, only if you give us one. The free spelling assessment offers to email you a practice plan. If you enter your address we store it, along with the level scored and the words missed, and we email the plan to you. The assessment never asks for your child's name, age or grade. If you do not enter an address, nothing from the assessment is kept.

Free and Pro account holders

• Account information: Your name and email address when you create an account.
• Child profiles: The first name you give each child, and optionally their age and grade level. You choose what to enter here, and a nickname works as well as a real name.
• Word lists: The spelling words you enter, upload, or import into the app.
• Test results: Scores and per-word results from spelling tests taken through the app.
• Subscription status: Your current plan (Free or Pro) and when it was last updated.
• Usage data: Basic technical information such as browser type and pages visited, used to operate and improve the service.

Pro subscribers (additional)

• Payment information: Your email address is shared with Stripe to process your subscription. We do not store your credit card number, expiry, or CVV, those are handled entirely by Stripe.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and operate the StudySpell service
• Display progress and test history in your dashboard
• Send account emails such as sign-up confirmation, receipts and password resets
• Send occasional practice reminders and product emails. Every one of these carries an unsubscribe link, and opting out never affects your account emails
• Process and manage Pro subscription payments via Stripe
• Enforce feature access based on your plan tier
• Improve the application based on usage patterns

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Children's Privacy

StudySpell is designed for use by parents and guardians on behalf of their children. Accounts are created and managed by adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Word list and test data entered by a parent on behalf of a child is associated with the parent's account and protected accordingly.

We store the first name you enter for each child, and optionally their age and grade. You are free to use a nickname. We do not ask children for an email address, a phone number, or any contact details.

If you turn on weekly progress summaries, we send a short automated note about that week's practice. Producing it involves sending that week's practice counts, the accuracy percentage and the missed words to Anthropic, the AI provider listed in Section 7. We deliberately do not send your child's name, age, grade or any contact details, and your child's name is added to the email on our own servers afterwards. If you would rather none of this happened, turn progress emails off in your account settings and the summary is never generated.

Guest sessions do not create a child profile and do not save spelling answers, though page analytics still apply as described in Section 2.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us at info@studyspell.app and we will promptly delete it.

5. Data Storage

Your account data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database provider. Data is protected by row-level security policies that ensure each user can only access their own information. Payment data is stored by Stripe, not by us. Spelling answers from a guest session are not transmitted to or stored on our servers, though page analytics apply as described in Section 2.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you downgrade from Pro to Free, your data remains intact but Pro features become unavailable. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing info@studyspell.app.

7. Third-Party Services

StudySpell uses the following third-party services, and what each one receives:

• Supabase, database and authentication. Holds your account, child profiles, word lists and results.
• Vercel, hosting. Processes web requests and standard server logs.
• Stripe, payments for Pro. Stripe collects and stores card details on our behalf; we never see or store them. We share your email address so Stripe can identify your subscription.
• Anthropic (Claude), two uses. Extracting words from an uploaded photo or PDF of a spelling list, and writing the short summary in a weekly progress email. The summary sends practice counts, an accuracy percentage and the missed words. It does not send your child's name, age or grade, and never any contact details.
• Resend, email delivery. Receives your email address and the contents of any message we send you.
• GoHighLevel, our customer records system. Receives your email address, first name and whether you are on the Free or Pro plan. Children's names and results are not sent to it.
• PostHog, product analytics and error monitoring. Receives page visits and technical error reports. We strip email addresses and long number sequences from error reports before sending them.
• ElevenLabs, text to speech. Receives the individual spelling words that need reading aloud. It does not receive names or account details.
• Upstash, rate limiting. Receives a short-lived record of request origin, used to block abuse.

Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not send it to advertising networks.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and data
• Cancel your Pro subscription at any time

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by posting a notice on the app or sending an email.
